Did you know that you can make a profit off your closet while keeping it fresh? Here are five tips to help you do it.

Sometimes, we make impulsive shopping decisions. This can leave you with tons of clothes you might not need or want. Sometimes we simply outgrow a piece of clothing. Instead of letting them catch dust in your closet, why not sell your cute pre-loved pieces to someone who’s can get the best use out of them? Fashionable clothes are always in high demand and with almost everything being online, you can easily profit off your closet while keeping it fresh and making cash, too. Ka-ching!

Want to make a profit from selling your used garments? Here are five tips to help you clear your closet and earn some cash.

1. Do a Full Closet Cleanout

Dedicate a day to cleaning out your cupboard because there are defs a few items you haven’t worn in over a year, have outgrown the trend, or simply just think it’s time to let go off. But check for holes and stains – clothes you sell need to be in decent condition so that whoever buys them can still get a good wear out of the items.

2. Start Snapping Those Pieces

Find an area with good lighting to take photos of the items you want to sell. Should an item have any flaws, make sure to photograph this so the buyer is aware of the item’s condition. I place garments flat, photograph them and remove the background using an app called PhotoRoom. This allows potential buyers to envision the item with their personal style.

3. Find a Platform That Works for You

You’ve got so many options! Popular reselling platforms include Instagram, Yaga, Facebook Marketplace, Depop and Gumtree. Do your research and figure out which platform you’re most comfortable with and start listing items with very clear descriptions, including the brand, price and sizes. I find that selling from an Instagram page works best for me as it’s easier to build clientele by being active and it’s easier to engage with customers.

4. Pack and Ship Your Orders

Once a garment has been paid for, mark it off as sold to avoid double sales. Give the buyer options with the type of shipping you are able to offer. Always keep in touch with buyers and provide them with a tracking number for their parcels. You can offer a collection option too if you’re comfortable with that. Check that you’ve packaged the correct items and that they are neat and smell fresh.

5. Remain Consistent and Positive

Do not give up or be discouraged when things are a little slow. The first sales are sometimes the hardest. Once you know the process and have a system in place, it will become a lot easier. As soon as you receive a notification, reply straight away as people get bored quite quickly online. Ensure that you always give great customer service by being responsive, friendly and helpful.
